2-14-2022 ICE UPDATE
Hello All:
Multiple people, especially my wife, have been devoting a lot of time to sale preparation. David and Daymian have been building (and dismantling) electric fence and moving cattle to various stalk fields. Ashley has been compiling information and finalizing registrations for the sale catalog. Hannah shot sale videos and has edited them. She, David Lloyd, Rachel, James and Lydia have been working on an assembly line for sale catalogs and flyers. Kristin has been doing some of the above, especially catalog construction, in addition to getting all the information compiled and to DVAuction and our website. So, with great pleasure I can announce that sale catalogs were mailed out last Wednesday and the videos are online at www.icecattle.com or www.dvauction.com. If you want a catalog and don’t receive one by the end of this week, please let us know. You can email Kristin at [email protected]. I think Pastors Chad and Holden have been working on their comedy routine for sale entertainment as well…just call them Woody and Buzz! All I have to do is type a few paragraphs…life is good!
Print Catalog Correction: Lots 14 & 15 are registerable BLACK ANGUS bulls, NOT Red Angus. We are tying up loose ends in regards to some A.I. certificates and DNA testing but hopefully will have everything that can be registered done by the sale. It is possible that we won’t have this done for the Bent Tree Farms Hereford sire before the sale, but we are expecting to be able to get this done. (Thank you, Clyde Mattson!)
The sale will feature a significant number of composite bulls. If you don’t need a registered or purebred bull, I strongly recommend you consider a composite (for most commercial herds I would recommend a composite regardless). Our composites mostly have calving ease and look tremendous. If heterosis is important, you should be VERY pleased with our composite bulls. The baldys are my favorite looking bulls. I expect there to be more value (excellence at a lower price) in the composites than the registered animals due to supply and demand.
Full disclosure: ICE will be active bidders at the sale. We offer every animal that survives our development protocol in the sale. We select bulls we want to be A.I./herd sires and bid on them. We select what we believe to be the best heifers to replace our cows and do the same. Why do we do this? We think everyone should have a shot at whatever they want in our herd instead of picking the cream. I know of NO OTHER seedstock producer that does this. We typically get every bull we target but only about 70% of the heifers. If someone wants an animal more than we do, I figure that’s a win-win; they get the animal they want, and we get some income. We have a limit on every animal we bid on; if you outbid us, we won’t get the animal. We have no funny money or funny business during the sale. We don’t push anyone on bids. I’ve been to auctions where I’ve suspected or outright witnessed funny business. We aim for the highest auction integrity anywhere…we have a Pastor for an auctioneer!!!
We have some current pictures of the bulls and heifers on the Facebook page and website.
Grace to you all!
