Hello All:
It’s ready! The 2021 Ichthys Cattle Enterprise Bull and Bred heifer catalog and videos are posted at https://www.icecattle.com/ and https://www.dvauction.com/video_catalogs/6544?play=1 . A GIANT thank you to Kristin, Ashley and Hannah for compiling, organizing, videoing, editing, scoring, remembering, communicating, posting, changing, fixing, printing, addressing, mailing…and whatever else I forgot. I pretty much do the yelling and they do everything else. If I had to do what they do, we might still have a sale, but you wouldn’t know what you are buying other than by looking at the animal…which isn’t necessarily all bad. Of course, our hired man, David Ellis, does a lot of the “outside” work throughout the year with the cattle and all of the kids help with calving and the A.I. project (thanks to you too Mr. Mattson: A.I. technician extraordinaire!). It takes a massive amount of work to put together a sale that lasts about an hour. We hope and pray the results of the sale last our customers for many, many years. A BIG thank you to our customers as well. You help us and we aim to be of help you.
We are in the process of building and readying the hard-copy catalogs and hope they can go out early next week. If you have any questions about any of the information online or in the catalogs, please ask. We make plenty of mistakes and if you see something that is off you will help keep the mistake from becoming a problem.
The base price on all of the bulls is $2500, an increase of $500 from past sales. We are comfortable asking that as a minimum price. We are convinced you will be getting a great value if you are able to buy one of our bulls for $2500…and if past results are any indication you will have your pick of several great bulls for $2500. The bulls we don’t sell will be banded and become grass or grain fed beef and will sell for more than the base price. It would be odd to quit selling bull seedstock because we can make as much money selling beef…but it would probably be easier to sell beef. I suggest any of you who are disgusted with the price you get from a sale barn or packer should consider selling beef directly to customers. We KNOW our genetics produce PREMIUM beef: https://www.icemeats.com/ . Does your seedstock producer sell beef? I wonder how they know if it’s any good?!?
The bred heifers have multiple base prices from $1000 to $2000 depending on their particular situation. The $2000 base price heifers are our top sort registered heifers. All other registered heifers have a base price of $1500. The top sort composite heifers start at $1700 and the others start at $1200. We have a few females with a base price of $1000. These girls are functionally okay, they just have a defect such as a bad eye or are late bred. We expect the heifers to sell very well, they have always been the strength of the sale.
Every seedstock producer stands on the shoulders of those who have gone before and builds new lines, crosses, etc. in an attempt to improve the gene pool. We believe our uniqueness in the industry comes from that fact that we have been able to mate Pharo Cattle Company cows with Ohlde Cattle Company genetics to produce some of the most gentle, easy calving, easy fleshing, efficient, long-living, EXCELLENT maternal and grazing genetics in the world. If you are already a customer, you know this. If you are still skeptical buy one animal and see for yourself. One animal won’t break you financially or wreck your herd. I don’t intend to portray hubris in staking our reputation on one animal…but I do have that much confidence in our animals. I guarantee that if you buy a bull and are not satisfied with him prior to your breeding season you can return him for a full refund, or we can discuss other options for dispersal and a refund.
Grace to you,
Lanny Greenhalgh | Steward
